A 17-year-old Lockport male was arrested on Tuesday following an investigation into a vehicle crash last month that left a 15-year-old boy seriously injured.
According to the New York State Police, on September 4 at 6:52 a.m., troopers responded to Beattie Avenue in the Town of Lockport after a 2004 Ford Explorer left the roadway, traveled through a front yard, and struck a parked vehicle. The parked vehicle then hit a 15-year-old waiting for the school bus, who was taken to Erie County Medical Center with severe leg injuries. The teen driver was also transported to the hospital.
Investigators later determined the 17-year-old showed signs of drug impairment. Toxicology tests conducted by the Niagara County Forensic Laboratory detected cannabis in his system. Troopers also found two unfinished “ghost gun” lower frames—one for a Glock pistol and one for an AR-15 style rifle—inside the vehicle.
The teen and his legal guardian responded to State Police in Lockport on Tuesday and were processed without incident. He was arraigned in Niagara County Court – Youth Part and remanded to jail on $100,000 cash bail.
Charges include second-degree assault, second-degree vehicular assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon (two counts), driving while ability impaired by drugs, and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
