After an extensive process spanning several months, the Keshequa Central School District has unveiled its eagerly awaited new mascot. The culmination of committee meetings, community-involved mascot idea generation which brought in almost 100 ideas, and over 600 students, staff, community members, and alumni making their voices heard in our final vote has led to this final decision.
After our students narrowed down our top three choices, The Keshequa Cougars, Keshequa Coyotes, and Keshequa Wildcats, our school community as a whole got involved and voted for our new identity as the Keshequa Wildcats!
In a special pep rally, students, faculty, and staff gathered to witness the official unveiling of the mascot.
In November 2022, the New York State Education Department and the Senior Deputy Commissioner of Education sent a memo to school districts in the state regarding the use of Native American logos, mascots, and names. The memo mandated that districts replace their Native American name, logo, and/or imagery by the end of the 2022-23 school year.
