Law enforcement are warning of a new scam involving text messages or other messaging apps.
The scam involves an unknown number or profile sending you a picture of an attractive person. The scammer impersonates this person and tries to establish trust and create a relationship. Then you’ll be sent nude photos and asked to share some of yourself in return.
Once you do, the scammer will threaten to post the photos online as blackmail, continuously demanding money from you.
Police say one way to protect yourself and verify who the person you’re talking to actually is is to ask for a specific photo such as the person standing on one leg while holding a can of soda.
