Law Enforcement to Increase Presence for Syracuse Nationals Car Show

SHARE NOW

The Syracuse Police Department, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police are working together to ensure a safe and enjoyable weekend as thousands of car enthusiasts are expected to attend the Syracuse Nationals, taking place July 18 through July 20 at the New York State Fairgrounds.

As part of a coordinated public safety effort, law enforcement agencies will significantly increase patrols in and around the event, particularly near Hiawatha Boulevard and Solar Street, which are expected to see high traffic volumes during peak registration hours.

“We want everyone to enjoy the Syracuse Nationals, but safety remains our top priority,” said representatives from the agencies in a joint statement. “Reckless behavior on public roads will not be tolerated. Our officers will be out in force to keep roadways safe for participants, spectators, and the community.”

Key Safety Messages:

  • Increased Police Presence: Expect to see more patrols and law enforcement visibility throughout the weekend.
  • Zero-Tolerance Enforcement: Burnouts, reckless driving, and driving under the influence will result in tickets, arrests, and vehicles being towed.
  • Avoid the Area: Non-participants are advised to avoid the Hiawatha Boulevard and Solar Street area during registration times due to heavy traffic congestion.
  • Drive Responsibly: Stay sober, obey all traffic laws, and be mindful of pedestrians and other vehicles.
  • Follow Directions: Comply with the instructions of law enforcement officers on the scene.
  • Be Smart: Have fun, but make safe and responsible choices throughout the event.

Event Overview:

The Syracuse Nationals is the largest car show in the Northeast, drawing tens of thousands of visitors and featuring over 8,000 vintage cars and trucks, live music, food vendors, and other attractions.

Law enforcement officials are encouraging all attendees to help make this a safe and successful event by respecting traffic laws and cooperating with officers throughout the weekend.
