The New York State Department of Transportation is alerting drivers to upcoming long-term lane closures on Interstate 490 at the bridges over the Erie Canal and Kreag Road in Perinton, Monroe County.
Starting Tuesday, westbound I-490 will be reduced to a single lane, and the westbound on-ramp at Exit 27 in Bushnell’s Basin will be closed. Eastbound lane reductions are tentatively scheduled to begin April 7, depending on weather and work progress.
Drivers should plan for delays and consider alternate routes during construction. When traveling through the work zone, motorists are advised to follow the “zipper merge” method—using both available lanes until reaching the merge point, then alternating turns to enter the open lane smoothly.
For updates, travelers are encouraged to check traffic reports and allow extra time for their commute.
