A Livingston County man is back in police custody after he escaped from Strong Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since April 5th.

Patrick Steinmetz was arrested on March 30th for allegedly sexually abusing a child under the age of 17 and was sent to Livingston County Jail without bail because he had two or more previous felony convictions. Police say after Steinmetz suffered a medical issue days later, he was taken to Strong.

13 WHAM reports on Friday that a court order released Steinmetz from police custody under “the stipulation that the release be reviewed regularly.” At around 6 Saturday night, deputies were alerted that Steinmetz had left the hospital. The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office secured an order from the court due to the severity of his charges ordering him be placed back into their custody without bail.

Steinmetz was taken into custody at a home in the city of Rochester without incident.
