Injured Chemung County Sheriff’s Investigator Provides Update

An update on injured Chemung County Sheriff’s Investigator Mike Theetge.

In a post shared on social media, Theetge said he was being released from in-patient rehab in Rochester with the next step being out-patient rehab. Thettge suffered severe brain trauma on March 29th while attempting to apprehend a larceny suspect at the Target store in Big Flats. Theetge and the suspect, an Ithaca man, were thrown from the hood of a moving getaway car in the parking lot.

Because of the injuries he suffered, Theetge said he cannot hear out of his right ear and the entire right side of his body is numb, including his hand and foot. Theetge added that he is happy to move on to the next step of his recovery, he is also very anxious to get back to normal and that is being home with his family and going to work.

The getaway driver was arrested the following day in Ithaca. Both suspects have pleaded not guilty to felony charges.
