A 6-month-old boy has died and his parents remain hospitalized following a crash last week in Gates.

According to reporting by WHAM-TV, the crash happened around 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Buffalo and Howard roads.

Police say an SUV carrying the family was stopped at the intersection when it was rear-ended by another eastbound SUV. The infant, identified as Noah Carpenter, was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be removed by emergency crews. He was later pronounced dead at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Authorities say the child’s mother, Kelly Carpenter, remained hospitalized in serious condition as of Monday. His father, Jake Carpenter, was listed in satisfactory condition.

Police say the driver of the SUV that struck the family’s vehicle was also hospitalized. Officials say the driver did not appear to be impaired.

The crash remains under investigation.
