Hochul: DC GOP to Blame for NYers’ Healthcare Cost Increases

SHARE NOW

Governor Kathy Hochul on Tuesday blamed Washington Republicans for the skyrocketing healthcare costs of 140,000 New Yorkers.

According to the governor, the GOP’s refusal to extend the existing enhanced premium tax credits will increase the health insurance premiums of New Yorkers who rely on the Affordable Care Act’s subsidies by an average of 38% next year. This represents an average increase of $1,400 for individuals and $3,000 for couples, according to Governor Hochul.

“Republicans in Washington have made it clear – they don’t care about New Yorkers’ health care,” Governor Hochul said. “It’s shameful. By refusing to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits, they are turning their backs on their constituents and ripping away access to affordable, quality health care. Republicans in Congress need to do the right thing and extend these credits that make health insurance for New Yorkers more affordable.”

Governor Hochul is calling on Republicans in Congress to extend the Enhanced Premium Tax Credits to make insurance more affordable to state residents.

Open enrollment is set to begin on November 1.
