A staff member at Groveland Correctional Facility was discovered deceased in state housing on Wednesday, according to the New York State Department of Corrections.
Department spokesperson Thomas Mailey told News10NBC that the employee had been off duty for two days and was scheduled to return to work that day. When they failed to report, a wellness check was performed, leading to the discovery of the individual’s body in their residence.
Authorities have confirmed that there is no indication of foul play. The Department of Corrections’ Office of Special Investigations and the New York State Police have been notified and are involved in the case.
The official cause of death will be determined by the County Medical Examiner’s Office. Any decisions about releasing the results will be made by the coroner or medical examiner.
