Governor Kathy Hochul has vetoed legislation that would have required grocery stores and delivery platforms to disclose whether their online prices differ from in-store prices.
In a veto message dated October 9, Hochul said that while she supports transparency to help consumers make informed decisions, the proposal would be difficult for businesses to implement and could ultimately increase costs for shoppers.
The measure, Assembly Bill 1096-B, aimed to amend New York’s General Business Law to require real-time price disclosures from both retailers and third-party delivery services, indicating whether online prices were higher, lower, or the same as in-store prices.
Hochul said she was “constrained to veto this bill,” formally rejecting the proposal.
