Governor Kathy Hochul joined striking UAW members on the picket line in Rockland County on Wednesday.
“Unions built New York, and we stand together in the fight for fair wages, better working conditions, and safer workplaces,” Governor Hochul said. “I’m proud to stand in solidarity with the hard-working women and men of the UAW as they fight the good fight.”
The strike began on September 15 when nearly 13,000 autoworkers halted work at Big Three assembly plants in Michigan, Missouri and Ohio. A week later, another 5,600 workers at 38 GM and Stellantis-owned parts distribution centers in 20 states walked off the job. The activity marks the first UAW strike since auto workers walked out on GM in 2019.
