Gas prices in New York saw slight increases this past week, according to AAA of Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY).
The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline rose three cents to $3.07, slightly below last year’s $3.09. The New York State average increased two cents to $3.12, down from $3.17 a year ago.
Local averages across the region include:
- Batavia: $3.11 (down 1 cent)
- Buffalo: $3.17 (up 2 cents)
- Elmira: $3.02 (up 5 cents)
- Ithaca: $3.22 (up 2 cents)
- Rochester: $3.18 (up 2 cents)
- Rome: $3.14 (up 2 cents)
- Syracuse: $3.06 (up 1 cent)
- Watertown: $3.12 (up 1 cent)
AAA notes that the small national increase is partly due to refinery maintenance in California, which temporarily tightens supply and impacts prices nationwide. Despite the rise, prices remain lower than this time last year, and AAA expects minimal change as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches.
Oil prices this morning are trading between $60 and $64 per barrel. Gasoline demand dipped slightly last week, averaging 8.87 million barrels per day, while total domestic gasoline supply fell to 206 million barrels. Gasoline production averaged 9.8 million barrels per day.
Meanwhile, diesel prices continue to climb. The New York average is now $3.90, up two cents from last week
