Gas prices are on the rise in New York. According to AAA Western and Central New York, the state average now sits at $3.26 per gallon, up eight cents in just the past week. A year ago, New Yorkers were paying $3.43 on average.
For comparison, the national average increased only one cent this week, reaching $3.20 a gallon — still below last year’s price of $3.27.
The national average for a gallon of regular gas is moving closer to where it was a year ago. After a summer that saw the lowest pump prices on average since 2021, prices have crept a few pennies higher over the last couple of weeks. This morning, the national average is still seven cents lower than last year at this time.
New York prices are still well off where they were a year ago, despite an eight-cent jump over the last week. Motorists continue to enjoy the benefits of low oil prices, which are helping to keep gas prices down. This morning, oil is trading in the $63 to $66 range per barrel.
Diesel prices are also rising slightly. The national average is up one cent to $3.70 compared to last week. The New York average is $3.92, up two cents from last week
