Funeral Arrangements Set for State Trooper Killed in Texas

SHARE NOW

Funeral arrangements are complete for the New York State Trooper who was killed in a Texas helicopter crash earlier this month.

Calling hours for Trooper John Grassia III will take place Monday from 2 until 7 PM at St. John the Evangelist Church in Schenectady, where his funeral service will be held the following day at 11 a.m. Immediately following the mass, Trooper Grassia will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, New York.

The 30-year-old, who also served in the New York National Guard, was killed with 28-year-old Casey Frankoski, in a March 8th helicopter crash near the Mexican border. Grassia and Frankoski were assigned to a regiment that has been operating as part of Joint Task Force North, a military unit that supports U.S. Customs and Border Protection operations on the southwest border.

The crash also killed U.S. Border Patrol agent Chris Luna and severely injured New York Guardsman Jacob Pratt.
