A Johnstown high school teacher has been arrested after allegedly sending sexual and inappropriate messages to a student under 17, authorities say.
State Police say 42-year-old Scott Jeffers, who also coached several school sports teams, communicated with the student through social media, texts, phone calls, and in person. Investigators say the messages were unrelated to his teaching or coaching duties and included discussions about drugs and violence.
The case came to light on October 17, when the Greater Johnstown School District alerted authorities. Jeffers surrendered to State Police in Fonda on December 11 and was arraigned in Johnstown City Court. He was released on his own recognizance.
State Police praised the school district for its cooperation in the investigation.
