HAY YOU, MEDIA! You showed up with all your cowbells and whistles on for the annual milkshake contest, but are you ready for the true test? We invite you all to the Hay Bale Throwing Competition beginning at NOON in the Beef Barn. Assistant Fair Director Pete Bardou is still bragging about his blue ribbon from Tuesday, but can you best him? We’ll see on Friday! Come one, come all.
NATIVE AMERICANS DAY: Join us on Friday, August 29, as we celebrate Native Americans Day at The Fair—a day dedicated to honoring the rich culture and heritage of Native American communities. We will kick off the day outside the Main Gate at 9 a.m. with the raising of the Hiawatha Belt Flag in recognition of Native Americans Day. All members of Native American tribes will receive free admission—no ID required. Immerse yourself in the strong traditions of Indian Village, located near Gate 4 of the Fairgrounds, through live music, dance, crafts, and customs. Visit their page for events and details.
THE REEL DEAL: Friday is the second Family Fishing Day of The Fair, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is offering free fishing from noon – 5 p.m. at the pond in the Experience Area near Suburban Park. Fishing licenses are NOT REQUIRED, and loaner equipment is available.
STATE FAIR SAMPLINGS: This isn’t Costco, but you can certainly sample your way through the Fairgrounds. At the Taste NY Tasting Yard in the Horticulture Building, cider takes center stage at 11 a.m. on Friday, as Richard Yi from Brooklyn Cider House and Scott Ramsey from the New York Cider Association will share the story of NY’s orchards, the legacy of cider making, and how today’s producers are elevating apples into world-class ciders. On the other side of the Fairgrounds, global berry leader Driscoll’s, with more than 100 years of farming experience, will be giving out free samples of fresh fruit at their booth near Gate 10, beginning this Friday through Labor Day, September 1. They will also be partnering with Husted Dairy to add ice cream in with their samples. Get your tasting on!
THE PIO’S PICKS: A few weeks ago, I was added to “Anchorheads,” a Yacht Rock Revue fan page, and let me tell you, the die-hards are Toto-ally ready for this Friday’s performance at 6 p.m. at Chevy Court. Time to bring out that Michael McDonald impression you’ve been working on and enjoy the softer side of rock. Adding to the Fairgrounds sounds, Friday will feature an eclectic array of music, with Vertical Horizon at 1 p.m. at Chevy Court, Dustin Lynch at 8 p.m. at Suburban Park, and a late-night set with DJ Pauly D at Chevy Court at 9 p.m.
GIMME THREE STEPS:

- Three concerts drew sizable crowds, with Tom Nitti & Ashley Bryant’s energetic matinee performance at Chevy Court, followed by Mattie & Tae’s colorful evening show at Chevy Court, and the legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd rocked the house, bringing ~33,000 to Suburban Park.
