Four Injured in Southern Tier I-86 Work Zone Accident

SHARE NOW

Four people, including one New York State Department of Transportation worker, were injured following a crash on Interstate 86 in the Southern Tier. The incident occurred in an active work zone near exit 79 in Windsor.

A State Police investigation at the scene revealed that four vehicles were traveling east on I-86 when traffic slowed for a construction vehicle that was exiting the lane of travel and going into the construction area.

A tractor-trailer was unable to stop and rear-ended a Hyundai. The Hyundai was then pushed into a parked DOT vehicle within the construction zone and also an Audi that was traveling in front of the Hyundai. Four people were transported to Wilson Medical Center for minor injuries.

State Police want to remind motorists to please pay extra attention in work zones.

“There are people working within those areas and deserve to get home to their families. Stay off the phone, don’t speed and pay attention to vehicles exiting and entering the area.”
