A former board member of the Roxboro Road Middle School Parent-Teacher Organization has been accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the group.
The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that Kristen Pyer, 52, was arrested following an 18-month investigation into missing PTO funds. Investigators allege Pyer stole $64,809.89 from the organization by taking money from the PTO’s bank account and pocketing proceeds from fundraisers.
The investigation began in March 2024 after newly elected PTO officials reported discrepancies in the group’s finances, including missing funds and unpaid vendors. With assistance from the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office, forensic accounting revealed that Pyer had misused the money for personal expenses.
Pyer, who had served in multiple PTO leadership roles, including treasurer and president, was also employed at the school as an aide and substitute.
She is charged with grand larceny and falsifying business records. Pyer was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
