Former HF-L PTA President Accused of Stealing From Non-Profit

An audit revealing missing funds led to an investigation into the finances of a Monroe County school’s Parent-Teacher Association, ultimately resulting in the arrest of its former president.

Authorities say 59-year-old Theodore Trybus allegedly stole nearly $10,000 while serving as president of the Honeoye Falls-Lima PTA between August 2023 and January 2024. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Trybus repeatedly wrote checks to himself from the PTA’s account, including one transaction exceeding $4,600.

Investigators also accuse Trybus of misappropriating $2,000 in proceeds from a 2023 Scholastic Book sale, using the money for personal expenses instead of depositing it into the PTA’s account. Additionally, he allegedly took $761 from the organization’s petty cash fund and failed to return the remaining balance.

Trybus has been charged with grand larceny.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
