Seven participants have completed the first-ever Monroe County Advanced Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship Program, a six-week initiative aimed at connecting job seekers with careers in high-tech manufacturing.
The program, launched by the Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association (RTMA), paired participants with employers in Rochester and Monroe County while they received classroom instruction at the Finger Lakes Workforce Development Center (FWD Center) at Monroe Community College. MCC delivered the training through its mechatronics program.
Graduates completed 96 hours of state-of-the-art mechatronics training, along with paid, on-the-job experience at local advanced manufacturing companies. The curriculum covered Industry 4.0 skills and hands-on simulation for careers such as electromechanical trades, machine building, and automated maintenance.
“The RTMA is proud to partner with MCC and the FWD Center to expand the Monroe County Advanced Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship Program,” said RTMA Executive Director Bob Coyne. “This innovative program offers participants a clear path to great careers in advanced manufacturing with excellent pay, competitive benefits, and advancement opportunities.”
The program is modeled after the Genesee Valley Pre-Apprenticeship Program, which began in 2021 in the GLOW Region. Sponsors include RTMA, SUNY Pre-Apprenticeship, and the ESL Charitable Foundation.
