Fired Corrections Officers to Rally in Albany Thursday

SHARE NOW

New York State Corrections Officers, including the 2,000 recently fired by the Governor will rally in Albany on Thursday.

The officers and their families will hold a meet-and-greet and rally at 11 a.m. at the State Capitol to draw attention to what they say is the continuation of unsafe, inhumane working conditions, and the termination of officers without due process, including those on Family Medical Leave and Workers Compensation.

Organizers of Thursday’s rally say hundreds of current and former corrections officers from across New York will be in attendance to discuss the need for action from the Legislature, and the Hochul administration to return peace, order, and humanity to prisons in the state.

Discussions will include the exponential rise in violence and drugs affecting the safety of inmates and staff, the need for full staffing to include those recently fired without due process, and a limit on mandated overtime.
