Ex-Avon Police Trainee Sentenced to Prison for Child Porn, Cyberstalking

A former Avon police trainee has been sentenced to federal prison on child pornography and cyberstalking charges.

34-year-old Casey Medina, of Rochester, was sentenced to nine years in prison and ordered to pay $12,000 in restitution, U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced Monday. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Meredith A. Vacca.

According to prosecutors, investigators executed a search warrant on Medina’s phone in August 2024 and discovered approximately 360 images of child pornography he had received through a social media platform. At least one of the images involved a prepubescent child subjected to violence.

In addition, authorities say Medina carried out a cyberstalking campaign against a victim between May and August 2024. Prosecutors said he manipulated pornographic images to falsely depict the victim and distributed them online, while also sending and recruiting others to send threatening and harassing messages. The threats included kidnapping, sexual abuse, and death. Investigators noted Medina often shared the victim’s personal details, including her hometown and workplace, alongside the doctored images.

The case was investigated by the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.
