The Collins Correctional Facility in Erie County was placed in lockdown on Wednesday after an inmate was reportedly caught attempting to discard contraband.
According to the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, this discovery led to a use of force and the recovery of two cell phones. As other inmates attempted to check on their fellow inmate, tensions began to rise before staff and supervisors intervened to try and de-escalate the situation. A negotiation team was brought in to help restore order and WGRZ in Buffalo reported Wednesday night the situation was peacefully resolved.
One officer was treated for a minor injury before returning to work.
The Collins facility remained on lockdown as of Wednesday night until officers are able to do a full facility risk.
