For the second year in a row, enrollment is up at SUNY schools.
Governor Kathy Hochul made the announcement Tuesday that enrollment for the Fall 2024 semester was up 2.3% compared to Fall 2023 with a total of 376,155 students across the system. 2023 saw enrollment increase 1.1% marking the first increase in a decade.
“As Governor, I have remained committed to increasing access to our colleges and universities — from removing financial barriers and expanding our tuition assistance program to launching SUNY’s first ever direct admissions program,” Governor Hochul said.“Every New Yorker deserves the opportunity to pursue higher education, and I look forward to building on this progress to ensure even more students can enroll at one of our world class institutions.”
Additionally, first-year undergraduate enrollment was up 0.9%; at the same time, enrollment declined 5% nationwide.
Among first-year undergrads, SUNY saw an increase in the share of Pell recipients from 46.7% to 49.7% from Fall 2023 to Fall 2024.
