An empty tractor-trailer and tandem ban is now in effect on several state highways in Western New York due to forecasted heavy lake-effect snow and strong, gusty winds.
State officials say the restriction will remain in place until further notice as hazardous travel conditions develop across the region.
The ban applies to the following roadways:
- Interstate 190
- Interstate 90, on the Thruway Authority section from Exit 46 to the Pennsylvania state line, in both directions
- Interstate 290, from I-190 to I-90
- Interstate 990, from I-90 to State Route 263 (Millersport Highway)
- State Route 400, from I-90 to State Route 16
- State Route 219, from I-90 to State Route 39
- Interstate 86, from the Pennsylvania line to Interstate 390
Transportation officials urge drivers of commercial vehicles to comply with the restriction and to use caution when traveling during the storm.
Motorists are encouraged to monitor weather forecasts and traffic updates, and to avoid unnecessary travel while conditions remain hazardous.
