Elmira Police Officer Arrested in Confidential Information Leak Investigation

SHARE NOW

New York State Police in Horseheads have arrested an Elmira Police Officer following a months-long investigation into the unlawful release of sensitive information.

The probe began in late July after the Elmira Police Department filed a complaint regarding potential leaks. Shyonna Pacheco, who has been suspended from the force since the investigation began, was linked to the incident. By the end of July, State Police executed search warrants at two locations and seized multiple electronic devices for forensic analysis.

Pacheco was arrested on Wednesday and faces charges including second-degree hindering prosecution, two counts of official misconduct, and two counts of second-degree obstruction of governmental administration.

She was arraigned in Elmira City Court and released on her own recognizance.

The investigation remains active, with the Elmira Police Department and New York State Police continuing to work together under the supervision of a special prosecutor from the Schuyler County District Attorney’s Office.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
