SHARE NOW

An Elmira man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to break into a former jail.

On October 5th, Chemung County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol members conducted a field interview near the Southport Correctional Facility. After speaking with several individuals, the Deputies located items belonging to the New York State Department of Corrections. It was later determined to be a burglary during which a quantity of copper was damaged and other items belonging to the Department of Corrections were located.

35-year-old Kenneth White is accused of damaging multiple master locks at the property to gain entry. He was charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor criminal mischief.

Following his arrest, White was sent to Chemung County Jail.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
