“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Crackdown for Labor Day Weekend

SHARE NOW

State Police and local law enforcement are stepping up patrols through Labor Day as part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign targeting impaired driving. The enforcement period began on Wednesday and runs through Labor Day, Monday, September 1.

Officials say Labor Day weekend typically brings heavy traffic — and with it, a higher risk of crashes, injuries, and fatalities. Troopers and officers will be working to remove drug- and alcohol-impaired drivers from the roads.

“Year-round, our members work to reduce drunk driving crashes and promote traffic safety,” said State Police Superintendent Steven G. James. “Our goal during this campaign is to take intoxicated and drug-impaired drivers off our roads and prevent senseless tragedies.”

Drivers can expect sobriety checkpoints, increased patrols, and the use of both marked cruisers and Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement (CITE) vehicles, which blend in with traffic but display emergency lights when activated.

The campaign is supported by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, which also promotes the “Have a Plan” mobile app. The app helps users locate taxis, set up designated drivers, learn about DWI laws and penalties, and report suspected impaired drivers.

Last year’s Labor Day crackdown, from August 30 to September 2, resulted in 10,240 tickets issued by State Police and 232 DWI arrests statewide.
