Local sales tax collections increased by 2.3% in October when compared to the same month in 2023.
According to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, October saw local collections total $1.84 billion in October 2024, up $41 million from October 2023.
“October growth in statewide sales tax collections was led by New York City, buoying monthly performance after virtually flat statewide growth in September,” DiNapoli said. “Recent volatility in sales tax collections warrants caution for local governments as they finalize their budgets for next year.”
New York City saw a 4.1% increase, collecting $843 million this October. County and city collections outside of New York City totaled $884 million, representing a 0.4% increase.
36 of New York’s 57 counties saw year-over-year increases.
