The name of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy who shot and killed two teenagers in Dewitt last week as they attempted to run him over in a stolen car was released over the weekend.
A seven-year veteran with the sheriff’s office, Deputy John Rosello opened fire at the teens as they drove directly at him while he was in the area investigating suspicious activity. The teens were ages 17 and 15 and from Syracuse.
There is no body camera footage of the incident, but Sheriff Tobias Shelley says there is video taken by the resident who had reported the suspicious activity.
In accordance with New York law, the State Attorney General’s Office has opened an investigation into the incident.
