New York State has changed its guidelines for eating fish caught in many of its waters.
The New York State Department of Health has updated its advice to specify the amounts of individual fish species one should eat monthly. Before, the state had simply advised eating no more than four meals a month containing locally caught fish.
The change is based on new data analysis on mercury toxicity and guidance from the Environmental Protection Agency.
New York City, the Catskills, and the Adirondacks have their own guidelines.
