Deadline Approaching for New York Summer EBT Program

SHARE NOW

No Kid Hungry is reminding New York families to check eligibility and apply for Summer EBT before the September 4 deadline. The program provides financial support for groceries, helping children enjoy healthy meals when school is out.

Eligible families receive a one-time $120 per child installment on a Summer EBT card, which can be used to buy groceries. Now in its second year, the program is expected to provide roughly $250 million in grocery benefits to more than 2 million children statewide. Families can check eligibility and apply at summerebt.ny.gov.

“Families are stretched thin as grocery bills continue to rise,” said Rachel Sabella, Director of No Kid Hungry New York. “Summer EBT provides direct support to ensure kids can have healthy meals year-round. The deadline to apply is almost here — I encourage every family to apply before September 4.”

A recent poll by No Kid Hungry New York found that 86% of households say food costs are rising faster than their income, and 53% report increased debt due to higher food prices.
