Former Governor Andrew Cuomo is planning to sue his former aide who accused him of sexual assault.
In the legal notice filed on Thursday, Cuomo accused former aide Charlotte Bennett of defaming Cuomo in a statement on December 9th, the day Bennett chose to voluntarily drop her lawsuit days before a planned deposition. Cuomo’s legal team suggested that Bennett dismissed the case out of concern that going to trial would expose her dishonesty. However, on the same day, Bennett’s attorney issued a statement standing by her allegations of harassment and retaliation.
Bennett also vowed to pursue a separate lawsuit against the state of New York, where she was employed while working in Cuomo’s office, seeking damages.
According to the filing, Cuomo is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.
