The average statewide price for a gallon of gas has gone up again. AAA of Western and Central New York reports the average on Monday is up three cents from one week ago to $3.92 per gallon. The national average is up a nickel to $3.88.
Diesel prices in New York went up 11 cents in the last week to $4.71 per gallon on Monday.
According to AAA, gas prices are on the rise, and the primary culprit is the surge in oil costs, which have jumped several dollars returning to the $90s per barrel. Monday morning, oil prices ranged from $91 to $95 per barrel. According to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand decreased significantly while domestic gasoline stocks rose. Although gas demand has dropped amid increasing stocks, elevated oil prices have pushed pump prices higher.
