A Buffalo man has learned his punishment for assaulting a police officer during the January 6th riot in Washington DC.

37-year-old Thomas Sibick was sentenced in US District Court to 50 months in prison followed by three years supervised release. He will also need to pay $7,500 in restitution.

According to the Department of Justice, Sibick posted a video of himself on social media illegally entering the US Capitol grounds and joining a mob of people. Sibick then filmed himself screaming, “Just got tear-gassed, but we’re going, baby, we’re going! We’re pushing forward now!”

He was later caught on a Metropolitan Police officer’s body-worn camera forcibly removing their badge and radio while the officer was being assaulted by members of the crowd.

Over one thousand individuals have been arrested on charges stemming from the January 6, 2021 attack on the capitol which disrupted Congress’ certification of the electoral votes for the 2020 presidential election.
