A body discovered in the Genesee River over the weekend has been identified as a Rochester man who had been missing for three weeks, police confirmed Tuesday.
50-year-old Jared Oswald was last seen on May 19 walking away from a residence on Harding Road, according to the Rochester Police Department. On Sunday, the department’s scuba team located a body in the river near Turning Point Park.
The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed on Monday that the body was Oswald’s, Police Captain Greg Bello announced in a press briefing.
The circumstances surrounding Oswald’s death are still under investigation. Authorities have not released further details and are urging anyone with information to call 911.
Turning Point Park, located along the west bank of the Genesee River, is a popular location for walking and biking, and was the focus of search efforts after Oswald’s disappearance.
Police are asking the public to remain vigilant and report any potentially related information as they continue to investigate the case.
