Binghamton Police Chief to Retire as Probe Nears Completion

SHARE NOW

Police Chief Joseph Zikuski has announced he is resigning from the Binghamton Police Department and will retire effective Monday.

Zikuski’s decision comes as an investigation into a July incident involving him and his girlfriend, Susan Rice, nears completion.

WBNG-TV reports Rice was charged with harassment after a video surfaced showing her arguing with an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old. The video also shows Rice striking the 16-year-old, who struck back, before Zikuski is seen helping her to her feet and walking her off the property.

Zikuski has been on administrative leave since July 20, two days after the incident.

Mayor Jared Kraham says the outside law firm conducting the city’s investigation will soon release its final report.

In the meantime, Acting Police Chief John C. Ryan will continue to lead the department.
