Nearly $22 million in grant funding has been made available to support New York Dairy farmers.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Friday that $21.6 million will help the state’s dairy farmers and agricultural marketing cooperatives expand on-farm milk storage and support transportation and milk storage projects. Funding comes from the Dairy Modernization Grant Program.
Eligible projects include purchasing and installing milk storage tanks, milk silos, milk tankers, pipelines, upgraded glycol chillers, loading systems, and watering systems. Eligibility and application information can be found here.
“New York’s dairy farms are the backbone of our agricultural industry, and they contribute so much to our communities, our economies, and our long legacy of agricultural excellence,” Governor Hochul said. “I’m proud that the Dairy Modernization Grant Program will help our dairy farmers and processors make much needed improvements to their technology and facilities, helping New York State to remain a powerhouse in dairy nationally and ultimately getting nutritious, locally produced dairy products to more New Yorkers statewide.”
Administered through the Farm and Food Growth Fund, the grants will range from $50,000 to $250,000.
Applications will be accepted now through February 14. Virtual office hours for interested applicants will be held on November 13: 2:00-3:00p, December 8: 2:00-3:00p, and January 15: 2:00-3:00p.
