SHARE NOW

A freshman at Alfred State College is in the hospital fighting for his life after being the victim of a gang assault that happened just off campus.

College President Steven Mauro said four Elmira men attacked Derek Correa during the early morning hours of October 15th as he was walking back to his dorm. According to Mauro, Correa was put into a coma due to severe trauma to his face and brain.

The four men arrested William Blye and Jayson Lewis, both 20 years old, and Eric Plante and Moses Scharborough, both 19 years old, are not students at the college. All four were sent to Allegany County Jail on felony gang assault charges.

A motive for the attack is not known at this time and police say additional charges are expected to be filed.

A GoFundMe page has been established by friends of the Correa family to help pay for expenses during this time.
