A 27-year-old man from Alfred has been arrested in connection with the death of another Alfred man in the Southern Tier.
Briar York was taken into custody on Thursday for second-degree murder and tampering with evidence after 32-year-old Shawn Dawson was found dead in his hotel room at the Economy Inn on Route 244.
State Police say York had visited Dawson on Tuesday. A disagreement about Dawson’s status on the sex offender registry reportedly turned violent, and York stabbed Dawson multiple times. York then tried to clean up the scene.
York was arrested and is currently in the Allegany County Jail, awaiting arraignment.
The NYSP Forensic Identification Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Allegany County Sheriff’s Department, Village of Alfred Police, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Allegany County Coroner assisted in this investigation.
