AG James Sues Federal Government Over Worker Firings and Teacher Grant Cuts

SHARE NOW

New York Attorney General Letitia James is suing the federal government over mass firings of probationary federal workers and cuts to teacher grant programs.

James, alongside 19 other attorneys general, filed a lawsuit Thursday against the Trump Administration, alleging the unlawful termination of thousands of probationary federal employees, including hundreds in New York. The lawsuit argues that the administration failed to provide the required advance notice, leaving states unprepared to assist unemployed workers.

In a separate lawsuit, James and seven other attorneys general are challenging the U.S. Department of Education’s cancellation of congressionally approved teacher grant programs. The Teacher Quality Partnership (TQP) and Supporting Effective Educator Development (SEED) programs support K-12 teacher training and address staffing shortages, including in SUNY and CUNY schools. The coalition seeks a temporary restraining order to restore funding.
