The New York State Police issued 8,263 tickets during a special STOP-DWI enforcement campaign conducted over Super Bowl weekend.

The initiative ran from Friday, February 6, through Sunday, February 8, 2026. During that time, troopers increased patrols across the state and conducted sobriety checkpoints aimed at deterring and identifying impaired drivers. The campaign was funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and carried out in coordination with local law enforcement agencies statewide.

Over the three-day enforcement period, State Police arrested 177 drivers for driving while intoxicated. Troopers also investigated 822 crashes, including one fatal crash statewide.

In addition to targeting impaired driving, enforcement efforts focused on other dangerous behaviors. A breakdown of major violations shows:

  • Speeding: 2,395 tickets
  • Distracted Driving: 287 tickets
  • Seatbelt Violations: 267 tickets
  • Move Over Law Violations: 115 tickets

For comparison, during last year’s Super Bowl enforcement campaign, State Police issued 8,663 tickets and made 161 DWI arrests.

State Police remind motorists that impaired driving is never worth the risk. Officials say high-visibility enforcement campaigns are designed to prevent tragedies and keep New York’s roadways safe, particularly during busy holiday and event weekends.

A breakdown of enforcement results by Troop was also released.
