Yates County Woman Accused of Abandoning Dog

SHARE NOW

A Yates County woman is facing animal abandonment charges in Penn Yan.

An investigation began after village police received a complaint of an abandoned dog that was found near a home in Penn Yan. Police were able to speak with a nearby resident who identified the dog and advised that they were receiving messages from Naomi Pelton, of Himrod, to take the dog back. The investigation determined that no arrangements were made when Pelton brought the dog to the residence, tied it to a fence, and left it unsupervised with no care. Police report that when they responded to Pelton’s home, she admitted to abandoning the dog.

Pelton was released on an appearance ticket for Penn Yan Village Court.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
