The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Wolcott woman following a welfare fraud investigation.
Deputies say 28-year-old Bianca Mumford is accused of failing to report income while receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
Investigators allege Mumford did not disclose her employment on a SNAP recertification form submitted to the Department of Social Services. As a result, officials say she fraudulently received $819 in benefits.
Mumford was charged with offering a false instrument for filing (first degree), welfare fraud (fifth degree), and petit larceny. She was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court at a later date.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
