SHARE NOW

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies arrested a 21-year-old Weedsport man on multiple charges following a traffic stop.

Around 11:35 PM last Saturday, deputies responded to a traffic complaint and observed Hector Ramos-Castillo’s vehicle failing to use a turn signal and maintain its lane. When deputies conducted a traffic stop, Ramos-Castillo showed signs of intoxication and initially refused to exit the vehicle. During the arrest, he struck a deputy in the head. Two State Troopers assisted in taking him into custody.

Ramos-Castillo was charged with DWI – prior conviction (E Felony), Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st – Alcohol (E Felony), Use of Vehicle Without Interlock Device (A Misdemeanor), Resisting Arrest (A Misdemeanor), Obstruction of Governmental Administration (A Misdemeanor), Harassment 2nd, and multiple vehicle and traffic infractions.

Both Ramos-Castillo and the deputy were evaluated by medical personnel and did not require further treatment. Ramos-Castillo was taken to Centralized Arraignment and released with a court appearance scheduled for Town of Fleming Court.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation; the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
