The investigation into a property damage accident that occurred in the town of Huron on Sunday night resulted in the arrest of an Ontario woman.
The charges against 36-year-old Elizabeth Kermis alleged that she was driving a car while in an intoxicated condition when she went off the road and struck a dumpster.
Deputies detected the odor of consumed alcoholic beverages upon Kermis’s breath as well as impairment to Kermis’s motor functions and impaired speech. Kermis was asked to participate in standardized field sobriety tests at the location of the crash, but she refused. Kermis was subsequently arrested and brought to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office where she refused to submit to a chemical test.
Kermis was charged with DWI-Common Law, failure to keep right, leaving lane unsafely, and obstructed view.
Kermis was taken to the Wayne County Jail and held for CAP arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
