The investigation into an allegation of a sex offender who allegedly failed to notify a change of address has resulted in the arrest of a 42-year-old Lyons man.
On August 23rd, Eddie Murphy reportedly had contact with State Police and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office on a traffic stop in the town of Lyons. During the traffic stop, Murphy allegedly made statements of him residing on Colton Avenue in the village of Newark. On September 27th, Murphy issued a statement to the Newark Police Department regarding another incident. In that statement, Murphy allegedly stated he lived at 719 Colton Avenue in the village of Newark. It was investigated by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office that Murphy was registered at 9 Jackson Street in Lyons as of January 2nd with no alternative address or address updates. Murphy is a Level Three sex offender and is required to update his address within ten days of an address change.
Murphy, who was already in custody at the Wayne County Jail, was arrested on Saturday and ordered to appear in court at a later time and date.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
