Charges have been filed against the driver of a car that struck three state Department of Transportation workers in Steuben County.
Brooke Burdett, of Arkport, was driving south on State Route 36 when she struck the three men in an active work zone. Burdett’s car, a Nissan Pathfinder, then collided with a DOT vehicle. The 30-year-old was charged by State Police on Thursday with three felony counts of reckless endangerment as well as a misdemeanor charge of driving while impaired by drugs.
Burdett was brought to the Steuben County Jail for arraignment.
Two of the workers, 60-year-old Brian Schecnk, of Greenwood, and 52-year-old David Hall, of Greenwood, were taken by ambulance to St. James Hospital in Hornell for their injuries. The third worker, 30-year-old Joseph Zimmerman, of Belmont, was airlifted to Strong. On Thursday, State Police reported all three men had been released from the hospital.
The investigation is ongoing.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
