Two Elmira men are facing felony drug charges after Steuben County deputies stopped their vehicle for speeding.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office says the traffic stop happened on February 4 on State Route 54 in the Town of Urbana. Deputies say the driver, 18-year-old Jiven Mann, was speeding and had a suspended license. During the stop, deputies allege Mann had suspected methamphetamine and tried to hide or destroy it.

A passenger, 19-year-old Ziayre Lawton, is also accused of having suspected methamphetamine, which investigators say he intended to sell.

Mann faces several charges, including aggravated unlicensed operation, tampering with physical evidence, and multiple felony drug possession counts. Lawton is charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Both men were arraigned and later released.

The Sheriff’s Office says the Village of Bath Police Department assisted with the investigation.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
